We say it a lot, but it's very true that the wine business is all about who you know. What's also true is that as much as we love Sancerre, it's hard to find a good one for a low price. So we asked our good friend and winemaker Nicolas Idiart what he could do for us. The first thing he said was to ease off the Sancerre obsession – and that nearby Touraine, also in the Loire Valley, offers Sauvignon Blanc every bit as crisp and vibrant, just at a fraction of the price. So Nicolas sourced and crafted for us this wallet-friendly white that pairs beautifully with the river trout he reels in most afternoons. It's pretty great with all seafood, actually, and is one of the best French whites for the franc that we've tasted in a long time. This is textbook crisp, vibrant Loire Sauvignon Blanc, just not at the price you'd typically expect to pay.

Tasting Notes

This is a crisp, aromatic white, with aromas of flowers, perfume, lemon and minerals leaping out of the glass. On the palate the wine is bright and fresh, and it finishes clean and pure. Your mouth instantly waters for another sip. Be sure to pair this with seafood – this wine is sublime when sipped alongside freshly shucked oysters.
