We know that we've been harping at length about how awesome the wines are from California's 2012 vintage. But we're serious – tasting these wines makes you feel like you were the first among your friends to discover Star Wars in 1977. If you tried the rich, unctuous and powerful Beachcomber Chardonnay, you'll love this, its bigger-brother Pinot from the same winemaker and vintage. The grapes were grown in the heart of the Monterey Peninsula and experienced that perfect combination of sunny skies and cool temperatures for a long, consistent growing season. The wine was fermented in stainless steel, then aged in a mix of new and old French oak. This is a lush, vibrant, textbook California Pinot Noir, full of bright fruit flavors and earthy complexity. The fact that this wine costs as little as it does is a miracle on par with the 2012 season itself. If you already love California Pinot Noir, do the smart thing and grab as much of this one as you can, young Padawan.

Tasting Notes

Flavors of red currants, black cherry and wild Italian plum are complemented by a touch of vanilla and toast that linger in the long, silky finish. Notes of rose petal and savory herbs are intensified with decanting. This elegant, balanced offering is the ultimate food wine. Try it with grilled salmon, roast duck, pork tenderloin or soft-ripened cheeses.
