One of the best-selling white wines on our site is the Lagoon Hill Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is soon to be one of our best-selling reds, as it has behind it the same cast of characters: Simon Buck and Magnus Riddiford, two U.S.-based Kiwis with deep connections in the New Zealand wine industry. This Pinot, a few years young and totally in its prime, comes from a small vineyard in Wairarapa, the sliver of the North Island near Wellington that includes Martinborough (home of Lagoon Hill). The wine is named for the vineyard owner's dog Winston, who every day would wander on his own into town, and lay on the floor of the butcher shop to keep his belly cool ... and maybe score a treat or two. Sure enough, this wine pairs perfectly with braised lamb, a specialty of New Zealand. This is an excellent red for all of your dinners and parties.

Tasting Notes

This is a Pinot showing the perfect balance of earth, fruit and leather characters. Aromas and flavors of dried cherry and cranberry lead the way, with notes of clove, cinnamon and Christmas spice playing a supporting role. There's a good backbone of acidity and soft tannins, making this the kind of Pinot that grows on you with every sip. Great with foods such as lamb and duck.
