Every wine region has a winemaker's winery – one that all the others in the region respect and admire. Without question, Staete Landt enjoys the envy of its Marlborough neighbors. Part of the reason is this particular wine – founding winemaker Ruud Maasdam not only captures that bright, fresh, classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc flavor, but wraps it all up and delivers it in a polished texture. Part of the wine aged in old French oak, which makes this a much more sleek, stylish Kiwi white than you're likely to have tried in the past, one that can age and develop with a few more years in your wine fridge. Staete Landt is sometimes tough to find stateside, so don't waste this chance to taste one of New Zealand's best.

Tasting Notes

From the winery: "This has an intensely aromatic classic nose, with nectarine, tropical and citrus characters. In the mouth a soft velvety texture shows abundant nectarines, peaches and cream, and grapefruit flavors, with chalky and mineral characters rounding off in an elegant lingering finish. The seasoned-oak component gives the wine fantastic palate weight and texture. This wine is drinking well now, but will increase in complexity and reward cellaring for up to five years."

Highly Recommended
"A luxurious nose of ripe melons and toast, with a nice, intense citrus kick followed by delicate fruit in the mouth, which is hugely complex yet crowd-pleasing. The finish is creamy and soft, with a touch of crunch. Drink 2013-2017." (July 2013)
