The Michael Pozzan winery in Healdsburg has deep winemaking roots that reach all the way back to Italy – and a vineyard the family still owns there, planted 150 years ago by a great-grandfather. Such tradition and experience are the only logical explanations as to how it's possible to craft a Pinot from Carneros that tastes this good for such a fair price. The Annabella range of wines, named for Michael Pozzan's grandmother, all come from select vineyards and are designed to be food-friendly, enjoyable wines. This particular Pinot, from the hills of Carneros that straddle the Napa-Sonoma border, was aged for 14 months in French oak before it was bottled and released. This is an absolute delight of a wine, especially considering the price.

Tasting Notes

From the winery: "This Carneros Pinot Noir, sourced from both Sonoma and Napa, is deep garnet colored and medium bodied, expressing bright cherry notes and backed with clove and star anise notes. The palate carries through with fleshy cherry and spices, and is deftly balanced with the acidity. The flavors are multi-layered with concentrated cherry – including Bing, Rainier and Montmorency – and also a slight earthy, leathery mouthfeel that makes the overall wine very complex, with good depth and length. The wine finishes soft, with generous vanilla and mocha notes, which present themselves in a very supple and elegant fashion and will pair well with many dishes."
