Add to that the fact that Cult winemakers such as Mia Klein, Mark Aubert, Celia Masyczek, Paul Hobbs, Bob Egelhoff and a “who’s who” list of other famous winemakers all make their own wines at Laird’s cutting edge facility on Highway 29 and the Lairds’ truly have the best of both worlds.

Having some of the most prestigious vineyards in Napa and one of the most advanced facilities to make it in obviously would lead anyone to want to make their own wines (who could resist the temptation!) and starting in 1998 Laird did just that, focusing on small production lots from their best sites across Napa Valley.

2008 Napa Valley Pinot Grigio
Granted, Napa Valley is not your typical area for epic Pinot Grigio. It does however boast a small handful of supremely unique spots where the grape produces wines of amazing complexity. As one of the largest vineyard owners in Napa Valley, the Laird Family has the pick of the litter when it comes to these spots. Add world renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs to the mix and you have a recipe for an unbelievable wine. The 2008 boasts aromas of ripe banana and tropical pineapple with a core of lean minerality and crisp, refreshing acidity. This wine is a perfect pairing for your holiday table, order this exclusive offering before it’s gone!

"With the help of Robert Mondavi, who consulted Ken on proper vineyard management, the Laird transformed a former prune orchard into one of the premier Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the valley. Still a family affair, Laird Estate now attracts visitors to its I.M. Pei designed tasting room.

The tasting list focuses on primarily Chardonnay for the whites, as well as some key single vineyard Cabernets from Diamond Mountain, Rutherford, and Yountville. In addition to its tasting room, Laird also houses an innovative custom crush facility, where local vintners have access to storage and winemaking equipment. Consulting Winemaker Paul Hobbs adds his expertise and has crafted wines not of overwhelmingly fruit immensity, but of elegance and polish, reflective of their origins."

"Perfumed on the nose and gently floral with notes of dried lime zest, Asian pear, and lightly dusty mineral tones. On entry this display lovely sweet pear fruit that is quickly cut by zesty acids. The mid-palate has lovely sweet/sour interplay between the elements with the fruit taking on a nice smoky edge and adding a hint of spiced orange rind and dried peach on the back end. Juicy on the gently mineral finish which is driven by the well judged acidity. This is really well balanced, combining excellent intensity of flavor with a rich yet not weighty mouthfeel."
