Recently a Lot18 member reached out to us, asking if we could put together a half case of wine that holds nothing back: "Give me power, give me structure, give me flavor, give me wines that scream, 'In your FACE!' " Slightly less poetic might have been, "May I have some Zinfandel, please?" but we're happy to accommodate either way. In this half case you get two bottles each of three different Zins, each one of them powerful, polished and ever so ... well, in your face. But these wines aren't just summer blockbusters that appeal solely to Transformers-collecting men. They're crowd-pleasers, great to enjoy with any food item you can think of to throw on the grill in the summertime. If you're planning a summer get-together, this is one of the best collections of reds you can get for the buck.
From the winery: "Extremely aromatic lavender and violet notes, mixed with black raspberry and wild cherry fruit. Tastes of black raspberry and wild cherry, with darker notes of chocolate, coffee and clove. An extremely balanced wine with good acidity, soft and velvety texture, and a complex finish of wild cherry fruit, raspberry and peppery spice."
You're immediately greeted by big, bold aromas of rich black fruit, blueberry pie, juicy plum and hints of mulling spice. The entry is rich and full, with an inviting mid-palate that has concentration and density backed by lively acidity. The texture is soft and velvety, with smooth, polished tannins that linger harmoniously. A core of intense, dark plum and cocoa notes coat the palate, while balanced acidity and lingering tannins add complexity, concentration and depth to the finish.
A bit lighter in color than you'd expect, this Zin surprises with a boom of raspberry, blackberry and blood orange aromas. The berry flavors, in particular, carry over to the palate, along with notes of ripe cherry and chocolate, all combining and leading to a long finish. There's a tiny bit of Petite Sirah in the blend, which lends a smoky note to the wine. Balanced and approachable, this Zin matches perfectly with pretty much any bold-flavored cuisine.
