Marlborough is probably best known for the Sauvignon Blancs made in its picturesque Wairau River Valley. But just to the south, over the hills, sits the much cooler, drier Awatere Valley. Still part of Marlborough, here the climate yields a much more intense, almost ferocious style of Sauvignon Blanc. Many Wairau wineries even bone up their Sauvignon Blancs with some Awatere juice. But other producers, such as Eradus, are wholly dedicated to the Awatere's pungent, signature style – and they deliver it with dramatic effect. This wine has everything you already love about New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, plus a little more.
This wine has all the signature Awatere Valley notes of passion fruit and zesty, citrusy herbaceousness. There's also a beautiful floral note that leads into the bright, zingy finish that makes your mouth water for sip after sip after sip.
