The late Jeff Wilkes spent 18 years selling fruit to some of the top wineries in the country, including Sine Qua Non, Foxen, Qupé and Au Bon Climat. Needless to say, he got to know some great winemakers and picked up lots of winemaking knowledge along the way. Wilkes founded his own winery in 2001, and right out of the gate created wallet-friendly, insanely delicious wines, such as this light-bodied, lightly oaked versatile white that'll serve you well on any occasion.
The wine is pale straw in color, with aromas of bright green apple, ripe Bosc pear and sweet floral spice notes. It's light-bodied, with flavors that mimic the aromas, and crisp acidity and minerality hugging notes of orange blossom and stone fruit. A wine for any occasion, this pairs nicely with fresh shellfish, shrimp pizza, or rich dishes such as langoustine-and-shrimp pasta in a butter-thyme sauce.
