Mixed Half Case Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec Argentina Patagonia Neuquén Red Wine
3 x 2011 Elelin Vineyard Selection Patagonia Cabernet Sauvignon

Patagonia. Just the thought of it evokes adventure, discovery and perhaps a brightly colored puffy jacket. All of these things were on my mind when I sipped these wines for the first time. Well, except for the jacket, as it was summer in Argentina when I visited. The Elelin wines of Eduardo Cáceres Caballero opened my eyes to the vast winemaking possibilities on the frontiers of South America. Show your friends that you're no slouch when it comes to great wines from far-off places. Your wallet will like your adventurous side, too.
This approachable red greets the nose with lovely red fruit aromas of strawberry and raspberry, together with a hint of spice. Similar flavors coat the palate with the addition of a wonderful red plum jam component mixed in. This medium-bodied Malbec has just enough acidity to keep it all light on the tongue and enough smooth tannins to rank this red a step above similar wines in this price point. A true delight, this wine will please an array of wine lovers. Serve it with light hors d'oeuvres and charcuterie.
Here's an outstanding example of cool-climate Cab. With a medium-intense, deep ruby color, this red reveals aromas of ripe red fruits such as raspberry and sour cherry, with a hint of candy apple. On the palate, those deliciously approachable red fruits coat the palate without overwhelming it. The tannins are soft and appealing, and the acidity lifts it all just enough to make this Cab the perfect choice for either sipping on its own or serving with a cheese plate, charcuterie, salmon steaks or hearty pasta dishes. It's a true crowd-pleaser. Enjoy this lovely red now through 2015.
