For the discriminating connoisseur of vintage Champagne

Champagne Henriot was founded in Reims in 1808 and, 200 years later, still produces some of the best bubblies in the region. It's also one of the last independent, family-owned houses in Champagne, and it keeps the personality, elegance, freshness and fine balance of its wines consistent from generation to generation. Through long, valuable relationships with top growers, Henriot gets grapes from some of the best vineyard plots in Champagne.  read more...

Fourteen-year-old cuvées of such high quality rarely become available at this price.

The fruit for this wine was selected from Premier Cru- and Grand Cru-rated vineyards in Champagne. As a result, it exhibits the trademark precision we love about Henriot, with pure expressions of both the Chardonnay (49 percent) and the Pinot Noir (51 percent) in the blend shining through. Because of their ample acidity, ripeness and structure, the Champagnes of the 1998 vintage are only getting better with time. So don't miss out on this one.

Tasting Note
This is a stunner. It's golden wheat in hue, and exhibits an elaborate nose of baked apple, smoky minerality and hints of mango and quince jam. Fresh aromas of orchard fruit and hints of cinnamon spice lead into powerful brioche and hazelnut flavors, carried by persistent bubbles and finesse. Six years of aging on the lees contributed to an intense richness and creamy mouthfeel, artfully balanced by a refreshing lift of bright acidity.

This can be enjoyed as an aperitif or alongside rich fish dishes, such as poached lobster with creamed root vegetable puree.

"Fully mature with outstanding complexity, it remains focused and fresh, with no trace of undesirable oxidation. Medium-bodied, full of flavor but still light and fresh on the palate, with an extremely long, symmetrical finish. Better than most Cuvée de Prestige Champagnes."

"Just touching maturity, this is a wonderful wine. With intense acidity, yeast, minerality and a beautiful final citrus texture, this is ready to drink but will age for many years."
—Roger Voss (Dec. 2010)

"This is rich – lush even – offering honey, coffee, grilled nut and citrus elements. Firms up, with the structure coming into play from mid-palate to the finish."
—Bruce Sanderson (Nov. 2009)
