Sometimes you just want thirst-quenching white wine, no matter the time of year. This half case of three different whites is exactly what you need when the mood strikes. Sure, the average price is only $15 per bottle, thus saving you some green, but the real beauty of this half case lies in its variety – you'll be amazed at how different these three light, crisp whites taste.

The layered, flavorful Pinot Grigio will make you slap your forehead in bewilderment for ever having paid north of $25 for a big-name Pinot Grigio; the Casa Marin will have you salivating for each tropical-fruit-flavored sip (and, the next day, scouring for other Chilean Sauvignon Blancs); and the Verdejo might just make you want to uproot and move to southern Spain for a constant stream of hot, sunny weather and thirst-quenching white wines. In other words, there's something for everyone in this six-pack.

Tasting Notes

2010 Casa Marin Laurel Vyd Sauvignon Blanc
With its vibrant, concentrated nose, the 2010 Casa Marin Laurel Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is sure to catch your attention. Notes of kiwifruit, gooseberry, white flowers, fresh-cut grass and citrus fruits play together in an energetic symphony of smells. The wine is rich and ripe, but with zingy acidity and a finish of zesty grapefruit peel, pineapple fruit and flint. This would be a terrific wine for pairing with chicken fajitas or grilled seafood. The wine is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to hold over the next few years.

2010 Condesa Eylo Rueda Verdejo
Right away, the wine shows aromas of stone fruit, citrus and melon, supported by a slight touch of minerality. It's not quite as aromatic as a Sauvignon Blanc, or as in-your-face as some white Ruedas can be – and that's a good thing. I love the balance and restraint of the wine, as well as its nice viscosity with a slight touch of grapefruity bitterness that adds an extra dimension, and isn't at all off-putting. There's a long, full finish, and the mouthwatering acidity is just right, making this wine perfect for warm-weather drinking – but it also has the richness to make it enjoyable in fall months, too. This would be great with a shrimp cocktail or ceviche, yet it has the heft to hold up alongside steamers dipped in melted butter.

2011 Terre di Terrossa Pinot Grigio
This bright Pinot Grigio displays notes of citrus, Anjou pear and honeysuckle on the nose. Flavors of white peach, pear and apple skin intermingle and become more prominent as the wine warms in the glass. It offers much more flavor and weight (thankfully) than your typical Pinot Grigio, and it finishes clean, with a touch of fruity sweetness. Drink this with a variety of light salad dishes; a pear-and-walnut salad would be stellar.
