6 x 2008 J. Keverson Sonoma County Zinfandel
J. Keverson began when four friends started making wine in a garage as a hobby. After they began winning all sorts of medals at winemaking competitions, the four decided to start a winery in Sonoma. Today, J. Keverson is widely known and respected, but its production is tiny, so the wines are rarely available outside California – that is, until now. Winemaker John Hazelwood has allowed this Zin to show its wild and untamed side while still expressing Sonoma County pedigree. This concentrated, sumptuous Zinfandel is without pretense – like the winery owners themselves.
This is a hedonistic Zinfandel that remains, surprisingly, a real sipper – perfect for all occasions and food pairings. The nose ushers in white pepper, sweet-grilled strawberry and blackberry jam aromas, with hints of forest floor and orange zest. Sweet, supple tannins support a core of meaty and sultry fruits with a clean, mineral spine. The finish does not give up and leaves you longing for more. Pair this with a grilled Reuben, carnitas tacos or a smoked, grilled pork shoulder. For other pairing ideas, check out our blog.
