If you build it, they will come. The fact is, a lot of people dream about making wine. Of those fortunate enough to make dreams turn into reality, only a select few find the right ingredients to ensure success. Volta has simply knocked it out of the park.

Volta works with an exceptional and sustainably farmed south facing vineyard under the care of organic guru Phil Coturri. They have also found a seasoned winemaker that literally grew up in the vineyards and wineries, Massimo Montecelli.

Volta is the definition of luxury boutique winemaking, producing only 18 barrels a vintage. There simply is not a lot to go around. Coming off of an extremely successful launch in 2005, receiving a 92 from James Laube at Wine Spectator, Volta has given Lot18 the opportunity of presenting you with a small amount of their second release!

How is the wine? One word: Sexy.

This wine’s soft and silky texture competes with its bold and rich flavors in a delicate dance that is rare.

Black cherry, currant, sweet herbs, milk chocolate, and rose petals caress your taste buds as this sultry liquid drapes around your tongue. It is pure velvet and leaves you yearning for another sip. The wine is juicy and sure to please all palate types, amateur to professional, new and old world, alike. A great wine with candlelight or filet mignon lightly dressed with traditional demi-glace. Drink now or cellar up to 10 years.

This is truly a rare find and there are limited quantities, get it while you can!

Winemaker Bio

Massimo Monticelli is a 4th generation winemaker . He has 15 years experience and spent 5 years as winemaker at Silver Oak. His brother is the winemaker for Trinchero family's premium line and his dad, a seasoned winemaker from Tuscany, was the first winemaker for E.J. Gallo back in the early 70’s and is still running their wine making today. When asked about his approach to winemaking, Massimo said, “My Philosophy is to let grapes express their characters from the regions, soils and climates in which they grow. Just like good parents guide their children through life, I guide each wine carefully through adolescence, gently pushing it to its full potential, helping it to discover its identity as it matures.”

Vineyard Information

"It is our belief that great wine is made in the vineyard."
Mission Ridge Vineyard hugs a southwest facing slope at an elevation of nearly 720 feet above sea level. During the day, the ridge enjoys summer heat but temperatures drop at night with cooler air coming in from the San Francisco Bay. The rocky, volcanic loam soil, high elevation and southwest exposure all combine to create a dynamic micro-climate. The vineyard yields small clusters of intensely flavored grapes that ripen slowly and late into the growing season. Certified organic, the land is respectfully farmed, without the use of chemicals or insecticides. Each grape that finds its way into a bottle of Volta has been carefully nurtured and hand-picked.
