6 x 2007 Oak Cliff Mendocino Pinot Noir

Long before Sunny Acres and Wisteria Lane, there was Oak Cliff. A suburb of Dallas, Oak Cliff was established during the turn of the 20th century and retains its original charm with gorgeous homes and parks. Jim and Maria Richardson, residents of Oak Cliff for more than 20 years, decided to honor their home by naming their Napa label after it. After all, Oak Cliff is where they have hosted some of their most memorable evenings, sharing their well-stocked wine cellar with friends. These gatherings led the Richardsons to organize annual trips to Napa, where they and their friends would continue tasting and discovering wine.

In 2007, they decided to make their own wine. Sourcing fruit from superb vineyards in Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties, the couple hired Bruce Regalia, from Madrigal Vineyards, a benchmark producer of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, to be their consulting winemaker.

Oak Cliff's wines have been poured at some amazing Dallas hotspots, including Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, one of Travel + Leisure's Top 500 World's Hotels, and Bolsa, a market, café and wine bar in the heart of Oak Cliff. The remaining cases of wine are reserved for friends and the Richardsons' ever-expanding mailing list.

The 2007 Pinot Noir blends 70 percent Pinot Noir from Sonoma's Anderson Valley, and the remaining 30 percent from Manchester Ridge in Mendocino. The result is a still youthful and light-bodied wine that you'll enjoy all summer long.

Tasting Note
This is a perfect quaffing wine, suitable for both candlelit dinners and campfire nights. I let the wine breathe in the bottle for about 20 minutes before enjoying it with a platter of pâtés and antipasti. The 2007 Oak Cliff Pinot Noir held up well to garlicky shrimp and rotisserie chicken, as it would any grilled light meats or barbecue fare. I recommend using a wide-based glass to best appreciate this Pinot's complex nose that had an appealing bit of gamey funk, soft red cherry and leather. The wine finishes with a beautiful floral addition.

More About Oak Cliff Cellars

Oak Cliff Cellars was born out of a love for good wine and good friends. For nearly two decades, we have invited friends to join us for special evenings at our home in the historic Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas to eat, share stories, laugh and drink deeply – both from our well-stocked wine cellar and from a common store of good friendships.

In recent years we have transported our friends and this moveable feast to Napa Valley for an annual beginning-of-the-year event in which to renew our friendships, taste new wines and meet the artisan winemakers in and around Napa Valley! Our passion for finding new and outstanding artisan wines to share with our friends reached the point in 2007 that we decided to make our own wines – initially for our own enjoyment along with our friends. And not long after that we threw caution (and perhaps good sense) to the wind and established Oak Cliff Cellars as a fully-bonded commercial winery, specializing in small lot production of premium Northern California wines (less than a few hundred cases each of our favorite varietals – Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) in order to share the fruits of our passion with an ever-growing cellar of friendships and acquaintances.

And so our name "Oak Cliff Cellars" not only reminds us of our neighborhood, friends and the many good times we enjoy there: It also represents our growing neighborhood across the U.S. of old and new friends with whom we are able to share our love for good food, wonderfully sensuous artisan wines and great, memorable times together!
